I have been a member of the North Shore Craft Group since 2007 and am proud to belong to a group of such talented artisans. My work is ‘one-of-a-kind wearable art garments’.
Around age fifteen I started making my own clothes, always altering the paper patterns so as to make the garment “mine”. Textile art developed into a passion as I became fascinated with colours and textures, and fabrics that had that ‘something special’ about them.
I use many embellishment techniques including block printing (I design and hand-craft the blocks myself), appliqué, faux chenille, fabric collage and machine embroidery, to create one-off wearable art garments and accessories, while continuing to explore new methods and creative concepts. I tend to sew intuitively, varying the use of colours or fabric layouts each time, so that everything I make is truly “one of a kind”. I also paint and/or dye silk to create one-of-a-kind garments, sometimes adding a block-printed design to add another element of interest.
My garments have featured in Australian Machine Embroidery magazine (one of which was a Cover story), and among my clientele is Dame Diana Rigg who purchased one of my jackets. I have exhibited widely throughout NSW and my works are always on show at The Gumnut Gallery in Bungendore (near Canberra) and the Ogishi Glass Craft Centre in the Hunter Valley where I am an invited exhibitor annually at the Ogishi ‘Craftfest.
