NORTH SHORE CRAFT GROUP CELEBRATE INNOVATIVE EXCELLENCE WITH THEIR 53rd ANNUAL JUNE EXHIBITION UNDER A FIRE AND WATER THEME TO SUPPORT DIAL-A-MUM CHARITY. June 16 – June 20 2010
This year the NSGC will celebrate their opening night Wed June 16 2010 from 6.30 to 9pm , with Special guest Justin Jones, who spent 62 days crossing the Tasman Sea by canoe in 2008 in the longest two-man kayak expedition ever undertaken.
The NSCG maintains similar feats of stamina, supporting creative craft people and artists for 53 years of innovative excellence in design and craftsmanship. This year the exhibition runs from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th 10am to 6pm daily and Sunday 20th 10am til 4pm, with a variety of different crafts such as Fabric Crafts, Jewellery, Glass, Ceramics, Wood, Paper, Leatherwork, Quilting and Bookbinding and Millinery are represented at the exhibitions. The Fire & Water theme is sure to provide strong starting point for the group’s members to base their broad range of original pieces on , not only to display for people to view but also acquire. While the group includes many national and international award-winning artisans, several guest exhibitor swill be exhibiting at this year’s June show:
Special Guest Exhibitors
Jude Skeers: Master Knitter and textile artist. He has exhibited his work over a 20-year period in galleries all over Australia. Jude has specialised in circular knitting. In the 1990′s he designed and wrote the patterns for a range of hats. These were published in ‘Yarn Art’. His hand knitted hats were sold widely in Australia and the USA. In the last few years, he has developed a range of wearable pieces using his specially designed circular needles known as the ‘Broome Beanie Needle’. In more recent times he has designed a number of garments for which he has written the patterns. These garments have included Möbius knitting.
Jangling Jack: Uses recycled/found items, up-cycling cutlery and garden implements to make beautiful quirky sculptures. Jangling Jack specialise in recycled metal art, sculptures, jewellery and wind chimes made from vintage materials, interesting curios and industrial machinery, along with stunning handspun wire orbs in their homewares range.
Steve Simity: Australian timber for chopping boards, bowls, mirrors & coffee tables Steve lives on the Hawkesbury River where he creates his treasured pieces. Steve has been working with timber close to thirty years and is happiest when he can source beautiful timber and create unique pieces for other people to enjoy.
Entry is by gold coin donation to Charity “Dial-a-Mum” supports the charity Dial-a-Mum, a non government-funded group which assists young mothers in times of stress.
